It seems that the media has lost a giant and well respected journalist last Friday. Tim Russert’s sudden death last week from a heart attack has viewers and colleagues in shock. The good things being said about this man make any viewer feel the pain for a man who was always prepared . He was described as being tough but fair. Hopefully, there will be others who try to follow in his footsteps. “Meet the Press” will have big shoes to fill.

I was really shocked and sad to hear this news. I used to watch his program from time to time. I enjoyed and learned a lot from his commentary. He would cut right to the meat of issue, and ask questions that people wanted answers to. Whether I disagreed or agreed with his position on certain issues, he would always offer a relevant and well-supported perspective. He will be missed.

My dad met him recently when he was in town for a fundraiser. He said that he was really charismatic and down-to-earth in person. I think the thing that was so appealing about him was the fact that he could stand on both sides of the issue. He was never one-sided and always a class-act with a diplomatic demeanor which is a rarity in the business he worked in.

I feel the need to mention his two books. He was a great author as well as journalist. As with most journalists, sometimes his politics would bleed through, but his work was always well researched and fair, if not unbiased. He was never one to sling mud, but he could embarass some right out of politics by exposing their flaws.

I think that a person must be very special to receive such lofty comments and tributes after their death. It certainly demonstrates that he was a man of integrity.
