Bummer – Warner Music pulls songs from Last.FM

Majors want Last.FM to be fee based. Pandora anyone?

“So you click over to Last.FM, because, as an attentive Bits reader, you remember that site, now owned by CBS, is offering to let you listen to any track you want anytime you want to.”

“Add one more disappointment to your middle-aged life: Earlier this week, Warner Music Group pulled Led Zeppelin songs and hundreds of thousands of other tracks off Last.FM’s service.”

“Warner is disappointed, because Last.FM hasn’t introduced a fee-based subscription service that it had planned to offer.”

this is a bummer

I believe that this probably will cause more people to just use Pandora instead of LastFm. I admit though that this aspect of LastFm doesn’t really affect me as a member though, because I usually just use LastFm for the radio service or to keep track of the songs I listen to on my media player, rather than using it to listen to specific tracks.

I agree that this will cause people to switch to Pandora. I had never heard of either prior to this class, but now use Pandora daily to listen to music at work. On the other hand, the companies and artists that own the songs have a right to be paid for their work. Warner Music made a decision, Lastfm made a decision and now it is the public’s chance to make a decision.
